Canada’s share is higher at the close of trading; S&P/TSX Composite Index up 1.11%

Investing.com – Canadian equities were higher at Friday’s close as gains in sectors , and propelled stocks higher.

At the close in Toronto, the gain was 1.11%.

The biggest gainers of the session were Hut 8 Mining Corp (TSX:), which rose 13.82% or 1.010 points to trade at 8.320 at the close. Shopify Inc (TSX:) added 9.92% or 101.98 points to end at 1129.72 and Converge Technology Solutions Corp (TSX:) was up 7.37% or 0.715 points at 10.415 late in the session.

The biggest losers were Altus Group Limited (TSX:), which fell 8.78% or 5.01 points to trade at 52.03 late in the session. Parex Resources Inc. (TSX:) fell 4.62% or 1.31 points to end at 27.07 and Innergex Renewable Energy Inc. . (TSX:) lost 4.40% or 0.81 points to 17.60.

Rising stocks outnumbered falling stocks by 684 to 335 and 98 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.

The , which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX compound options, fell 3.96% to 22.58.

In commodities trading, gold futures for April delivery rose 0.21% or 3.80 to $1,807.90 per troy ounce. Meanwhile, crude oil for March delivery rose 2.17% or 1.96 to $92.23 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract rose 2.37% or 2.16 to trade at $93.27 a barrel.

CAD/USD fell 0.54% to 0.7843, while CAD/EUR fell 0.65% to 0.6848.

US dollar index futures rose 0.05% to 95.430.
